My name is Alia Khan Abedelal. I am a mother, wife, daughter, sister, friend, and attorney. I have been a practicing Attorney since 2007. In the last 17 years of practicing law, no other area of law has held a special place in my heart like Bankruptcy Law. I wanted to help people desperate to fix their financial situation and give them a true resolution in a short time. Other areas of law take years to finalize. Bankruptcy is the one area that can be resolved in a few short months and my clients are on their way to financial freedom after their debts are discharged.
Taking the fear out of debt and bankruptcy is my mission. I have worked with married couples with children, single moms and dads, people who work a 9-5 but can barely afford anything after taxes, homeowners who have found themselves house rich - but have no savings, disabled individuals, senior citizens living on social security, and military members. Whatever your specific situation is - I am confident I can help you.
I understand your financial worries and want to see my clients reclaim not only their finances but their lives and health - both mental and physical. Stress, embarrassment, and shame can all wreck havoc on our bodies, and I make it my goal to create a plan that shows them there is in fact light at the end of the tunnel.
I respond quickly via text and email. I don’t let my clients, or prospective clients wait. The quicker we get your case resolved, the quicker you can take your life back.
When I am not running a law practice, I am a mother to two lovable children. We love to go on hikes, build sandcastles on the beach and play at parks. My daughter and I love shopping at TJ Maxx. During my spare time, I watch old episodes of Law & Order and read crime novels, while trying to avoid heading to my 5 am workout class.
I’m excited to meet and work with you, feel free to call us directly or click the button below to fill out a contact form!
In 2021, this district led the nation with 23,104 bankruptcy filings, surpassing other districts like the Middle District of Florida and the Northern District of Illinois. Recent data from 2025 indicates that the Central District continues to experience high bankruptcy activity, with 501 Chapter 7 filings in a single week, reflecting ongoing financial pressures in the region.
This district sees a high volume of Chapter 7 and Chapter 13 filings, particularly from individuals struggling with medical debt, job loss, or high housing costs—a common issue in Southern California. The region's large population and high cost of living contribute significantly to the number of personal bankruptcies. On the business side, the Central District handles a range of cases from small businesses to larger corporations, often in sectors like retail, construction, real estate, and entertainment. The Los Angeles Division, in particular, is a hub for complex Chapter 11 cases involving high-profile reorganizations and liquidations.
Riverside and San Bernardino counties, which are part of the Inland Empire, also experience high bankruptcy rates, often tied to economic fluctuations, job instability, and rising consumer debt. The district's size and economic variety make it a key indicator of broader financial trends in California and the nation. Overall, the Central District plays a critical role in providing financial relief and restructuring opportunities for individuals and businesses navigating economic hardship.
