Welcome to Khan Law

where we educate and help good people in California navigate their bad debt

My name is Alia Khan Abedelal. I am a mother, wife, daughter, sister, friend, and attorney. I have been a practicing Attorney since 2007. In the last 17 years of practicing law, no other area of law has held a special place in my heart like Bankruptcy Law. I wanted to help people desperate to fix their financial situation and give them a true resolution in a short time. Other areas of law take years to finalize. Bankruptcy is the one area that can be resolved in a few short months and my clients are on their way to financial freedom after their debts are discharged.

Taking the fear out of debt and bankruptcy is my mission. I have worked with married couples with children, single moms and dads, people who work a 9-5 but can barely afford anything after taxes, homeowners who have found themselves house rich - but have no savings, disabled individuals, senior citizens living on social security, and military members. Whatever your specific situation is - I am confident I can help you.

I understand your financial worries and want to see my clients reclaim not only their finances but their lives and health - both mental and physical. Stress, embarrassment, and shame can all wreck havoc on our bodies, and I make it my goal to create a plan that shows them there is in fact light at the end of the tunnel.

The Northern District of California encompasses: Alameda, Contra Costa, San Francisco, Santa Clara, and surrounding counties.

I respond quickly via text and email. I don’t let my clients, or prospective clients wait. The quicker we get your case resolved, the quicker you can take your life back.

When I am not running a law practice, I am a mother to two lovable children. We love to go on hikes, build sandcastles on the beach and play at parks. My daughter and I love shopping at TJ Maxx. During my spare time, I watch old episodes of Law & Order and read crime novels, while trying to avoid heading to my 5 am workout class.

I’m excited to meet and work with you, feel free to call us directly or click the button below to fill out a contact form!

The Northern District of California Bankruptcy Court handles a broad spectrum of cases, reflecting the region's diverse economic landscape. Individuals frequently file for Chapter 7 to liquidate assets or for Chapter 13 to reorganize and repay debts over time, often in response to the high cost of living in the Bay Area. Small businesses also turn to the court when facing financial hardship, particularly in competitive urban markets

The district is home to Silicon Valley, making it a common venue for tech startups and venture-backed companies filing for bankruptcy, especially when rapid scaling or investment downturns strain their finances. At the same time, rural counties like Mendocino and Humboldt contribute agricultural filings, with farms and growers sometimes seeking relief under bankruptcy protections due to market volatility or environmental pressures. This mix of urban affluence, tech innovation, and agricultural tradition results in a complex and varied pattern of bankruptcy trends across the district.
